From falling rain to flowing streams, water is always on the move! Young nature explorers are invited to dive into the science of water at Wonderful Water, an engaging children’s program at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. This hands-on class will take place Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. and is designed for youth ages 5–10.

During this interactive program, participants will explore the amazing journey of water through the water cycle, learn about local watersheds, and discover the aquatic ecosystems that depend on clean, healthy water. Through an age-appropriate mini lesson, kids will see how water connects clouds, land, plants, animals—and people.

The program includes:

• A fun, educational lesson on the water cycle and watersheds
• A creative, water-themed craft to take home
• A hands-on activity that brings aquatic ecosystems to life

This interactive class will take place Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. and is designed for youth ages 5–10.

During this fun and educational program, participants will learn about nocturnal animals and how they are specially adapted to survive and thrive in the dark. Through an age-appropriate mini lesson, kids will explore how animals use keen senses, camouflage, and clever behaviors to navigate the nighttime world.

The program includes:

• A lively lesson about nocturnal animals and their adaptations
• A creative, night-themed craft to take home
• A hands-on activity that brings nighttime wildlife to life

Young wildlife wordsmiths are invited to discover the fun and fascinating names used for groups of animals at What Do You Call a Group of…?, an engaging children’s program at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. This hands-on class will take place Saturday, November 21, 2026, from 10:00–11:30 a.m. and is designed for youth ages 5–10.

During this interactive program, participants will explore the unusual and often amusing names given to groups of animals commonly found in Texas and on the refuge—like a gaggle of Canada geese along the water, a parliament of owls in the trees, a pod of playful river otters, or a herd of white-tailed deer grazing nearby. Through an age-appropriate mini lesson, kids will learn why these group names exist and how they often relate to animal behavior, habitat, or history.

The program includes:

• A fun lesson featuring Texas and refuge wildlife group names
• A creative, animal-themed craft to take home
• A lively, hands-on activity that gets kids moving and thinking

Blending language, science, and creativity, What Do You Call a Group of…? is perfect for curious kids who love animals—and a good laugh.

A full day of learning all about nature: fossils, prairies, spiders, birds, snakes and water cycles!  Go for a birding hike, make a terrarium and meet other young nature enthusiasts!
